Year 7. Quadrilaterals

Each of the shapes below are called quadrilaterals, as they each have four sides. Can you think of any ways we could categorise them?

Rectangles

A rectangle is a special kind of quadrilateral which has four right angles.

A square is a special kind of rectangle whose side lengths are all equal.

Exercise 1

Parallelograms and rhombi

A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides is called a parallelogram.

A parallelogram with four equal sides is called a rhombus.

Exercise 2

Trapezium & Kite

A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides is called a trapezium.

A quadrilateral with two pairs of equal adjacent sides is called kite.
