Year 7. Fractions, Decimals & Percentages

The same as fractions, we can shade parts of shapes to represent percentages. It is easy to rewrite a percentage as a fraction, we just write it as the numerator of a fraction whose denominator is 100.

Exercise 1

Converting Fractions to Percentages

If the denominator of a fractions is 100, it is easy to write it as a percentage.

If the denominator is not 100, we need to convert it so that it is (or treat it as a division and read off the hundredths.

Worked Examples

Write the fraction 6/25 as a percentage.

Write the fraction 28/80 as a percentage.

Exercise 2

Converting Decimals to Percentages

To convert a decimal to a percentage we simply read off the number of hundredths

Worked Examples

  • Rewrite the following decimal numbers as percentages:
    • 0.35
    • 0.3
    • 0.316

Exercise 3

Converting percentages to decimals

We can turn decimals to percentages by recognising that they are hundredths and writing them down so the unit figure of the percentage aligns with the hundredths figure of the decimal.

Worked Example
