Year 7. Compound Shapes

If we want to build a fence around a field, we need to know how long the perimetre is (the suffix peri- means around, like in “periphrase”).

Perimeters can be measured in millimetres, centimetres or metres.

Let’s measure the perimeters of the shapes below and make a table showing their width and their length and their perimeter. Can we find a shortcut to find their perimeter from their width and their length?
