Y9. Shape & Space: Maps & Scale Drawings

Whenever we need to represent something that is very big, we always need to use a scale.

A scale is a special rule that tells us what size in the thing we are representing is represented by what size in our diagram.

For instance, a scale of 1cm : 2km means that ever 2km in real life is represented by 1cm in a scale. It is easy to use, because once we know the distance in km in real life, we can just divide that number by 2 and then use that number of cm in a diagram.
