Y9. Shape & Space. Enlargements

  • An enlargement is specified based on the following two things:
    • Scale Factor;
    • Centre of Enlargement.

For instance, for an enlargement of scale factor 2, all points on the shape are moved to points twice as far from the centre of enlargement as the original points. What do you think would happen for an enlargement of scale factor 1/2? What about for an enlargement of scale factor -1/2? Notice that enlargements don’t always make shapes larger.
