Mathematics within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is:
- Studied within 4 branches:
- Numerical and abstract reasoning;
- Thinking with models;
- Spatial reasoning; and
- Reasoning with data.
- Split into 2 levels:
- Standard; and
- Extended.
- Taught in 6 contexts:
- Identities and relationships;
- Orientation in space and time;
- Personal and cultural expression;
- Scientific and technical innovation;
- Globalisation and sustainability; and
- Fairness and development.
- Tested based on 3 assessments (each of these include the underlying tested criteria of “Communicating”):
- Knowing and understanding;
- Investigating patterns; and
- Applying mathematics in real life contexts.
- Taught over 5 years, with 50 hours teaching time in each of the first 3 years and 35 hours teaching time in each of the last 2 years.
