To translate an object is a technical term which means to slide it around the xy-plane.

A translation is defined by a horizontal component and a vertical component, typically expressed by a vector, where the “top” part of the vector shows us the shift to the right and the “bottom” part of the vector shows us the shift up.

Negative numbers show us shifts left and down respectively.
